MAKEMKV FREE OPEN SOURCE VERSION FOR FREE
Which basically means Mike is quite willing to let people use the program for free for the time being but reserves the right to withdraw that offer at any time, which is why you have to keep updating the key to keep the program running. It's quite clear on the subject that IT IS FREE WHILE IN BETA. MakeMKV DOES NOT pretend that it is free.
MAKEMKV FREE OPEN SOURCE VERSION HOW TO
But since when is it YOUR job to make sure that people understand how to update it for free? OK, I'll have to correct you here. I'm not anti-MakeMKV so if people want to use it, that's fine. And you admit that YOU, not the author of the program itself, are doing this to let people know, which confirms my point that the software itself is deficient in that it pretends that you need to buy it to keep using it. But this presupposes that EVERYBODY has read such posts before from you, if you want to play that card. I don't use it at all, but now you know what you have to do to keep using it for free forever.Įvery single time I recommend MakeMKV, I include an explanation that you have to update the beta key every month or so, or install new versions as they are released. I gave it one more try and found it had expired, yet many of our members here suggest using it all the time because it's "Free forever", hence my post questioning that and the explanation of how it really works. I don't want to get into a big debate about it as I don't really have a bad opinion of it, but I will simply say that it did not meet a very specific need I had at the time. You can reach your own conclusion, as I have done, about the whole process and the fact that MakeMKV itself does not make this clear and sort of (cough cough) encourages you to come to the conclusion that you're going to have to buy a copy to keep using it when that's not really the case. So as long as you keep re-installing the demo version, it stays free. It is technically free, but the program doesn't explain to you that the trick is that you have to keep re-installing the free version every time the previous version expires on you. I'm hardly a newbie, yet I sort of made the same post last year as yours.
